Athens 2004 Olympic Torch Relay
Following Salt Lake, the Athens Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (ATHOC) contracted Além as the outsourced operator for the international component of the Athens Relay and as advisor and consultant on the domestic component of the Relay. Além successfully conducted the first ever, global Olympic Torch Relay, planning and executing a Relay in 35 cities in 27 countries for 36 days. As the turn-key operator, Além undertook most of the celebration site responsibilities outlined for Salt Lake 2002 as well as specific responsibilities relating to the conduct of an international Relay.
These included:
- Cultural integration of all locations;
- Customs and immigration requirements relating to production;
- Local sponsor management and integration of global and local sponsor plans;
- Global distribution and logistics of Relay equipment, including staging equipment, image and identity elements in language;
- Video board procurement;
- Global risk, vulnerability assessment and threat analysis.
