Denver, Colorado -2008 Democratic National Convention
Além was commissioned by the Denver 2008 Democratic National Convention Host Committee to serve as the local organizing committee's Event Director and Event Planning Team. An Além employee was seconded to the host committee to serve as the Event Director, managing all special events connected to the convention, including media and state delegate functions.
Two major functions planned by Além were the Media Party at Elitch Gardens and the Green Concert at Red Rocks. The Media Party attracted 10,000 media members and guests for an evening of rides, games, food, concerts, and a closing fireworks ceremony. Além coordinated with park management, outside caterers, security agencies, volunteers, sponsors and numerous other groups to ensure Denver properly welcomed the thousands of worldwide media members to Denver. The Associated Press named the Media Party a "Best of" for the Convention and declared, "Give the hosts a Pulitzer."
The Green Concert at Red Rocks celebrated the City's greening efforts around the 2008 Democratic National Convention, and featured Sheryl Crow, Sugarland and Dave Matthews. Além worked with Red Rocks management, caterers, a production team, sponsors, elected officials and volunteers to coordinate this 9,500-person event.
