Rio 2007 Pan American Torch Relay
The Rio 2007 Pan American Torch Relay was the first time a Pan American Games introduced a large -scale, Olympic-style Relay, designed to promote the Pan American Games throughout Brazil, including the whole country in the celebration of the Games. The Relay was a collaborative effort requiring the cooperation and contribution from the Rio 2007 Organizing Committee and the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) along with federal, state and city governments, Samsung and other diverse organizations across the country.
The lighting ceremony of the Pan American Flame was held in the Teotihuacn Pyramids, 40 km from Mexico City. During the course of the Relay, the Flame traveled to 27 state capitals and 22 Brazilian sites, totaling 51 points of passage. More than 3,000 torchbearers, including everyday people, athletes and personalities, had the opportunity to carry the Pan American Torch.
Além was responsible for the planning and operations of the Relay in close cooperation with the Brazilian Olympic Committee, the federal government and the Brazilian Air Force. Além coordinated all aspects of the Relay planning and execution, including celebration production, staging, image and identity elements, and sponsor and other stakeholder integration. Além completed the planning of the entire project (with exception of torch manufacturing) in less than three months. The program was delivered on-time and under budget.
