Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Torch Relay
Além was first contracted by Salt Lake 2002 for consulting services to assist with the development of a scope and budget for the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Torch Relay. Following this initial consultancy, Salt Lake 2002 decided that a complete outsourcing of the Relay operation was their desired organizational model.
Salt Lake 2002 represented the first complete outsourcing by an OCOG of a Relay operation to a contracted service provider. Além was responsible for all aspects of the Relay operation.
Além managed specific responsibilities for celebration site planning and execution along with several additional areas covering:
All break and celebration site selections and coordination with local authorities;
Community relationship management accommodating community task forces, production and distribution of the Community Planning Guide;
Sponsor operations building integration into celebration and route planning;
Special considerations relating to a winter Relay, including indoor venues, outdoor special considerations encompassing snow/ice removal, propane issues, and other cold-weather needs;
Utilization of Relay assets for re-deployment for the Paralympic Torch Relay.
